Prepping Your Skin for Summer - For Oily & Acne Prone Skin

Those with oily or acne prone skin know that, typically, summer only aggravates their skin concerns. With increased humidity in the air and our body kicking its natural oil production levels into overdrive, the skin (when untreated) can become a hive for clogged pores, blemishes and something of a semi-permanent sheen over the complexion.
The solution? Targeted skincare, formulated to balance the skin’s oil levels to ensure the skin continues to function at its most healthy throughout the warmer months. Choose a skincare routine focused on normalising and balancing your skin, working to clear the pores, slow the rate at which the skin produces its natural oils and keep your complexion blemish free despite the humidity.

Is your skin summer ready? Here’s our new season guide for oily and acne prone skin.

Normalise and Target. The first step in promoting healthy skin function is normalising it. Environ’s Focus Care Clarity+ Range has been developed specifically with acne prone skin in mind, allowing you to target breakouts and excess oil production at every step in your skin routine, rather than simply integrating one quick-fix spot treatment into your regimen.

Without compromising the health of the skin in the way many harsh acne-specific treatments do, the Clarity+ range relies on three phases to balance, normalise and treat the skin. Phase 1 is to Clean the skin, clearing excess oil from the pores and removing the congestion that leads to blemishes. Phase 2 is designed to Control acne and heightened oil production, comprising of products that work to treat acne at the source, improve the overall texture of the skin and deliver a hit of the vitamins that the complexion really needs. The final phase is to Clear the skin with a masque rich in gentle, but effective, chemical exfoliants to refine the complexion and give the skin a glow.

Finish. To prevent the mid-afternoon T-zone sheen that comes hand-in-hand with naturally oily skin, choose makeup with skin benefits and oil-balancing, mattifying properties.

Begin by applying the jane iredale Smooth Affair Primer for Oily Skin. This primer works to reduce excess oil without removing any radiance from the skin, ensuring you still have a glow without any shine. Swap out your regular foundation for a pressed powder like the jane iredale PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation for sheer, natural coverage with a sheen-free finish with the added benefit of broad spectrum sun protection. This powder can also be used to top up your SPF throughout the day by dusting it lightly over the areas of the skin that may be exposed to the sun over lunch or in the afternoon – this is of particular importance during the summer, when damaging UVA and UVB rays are heightened. Complete your makeup as you ordinarily would, then set it in place using the jane iredale Balance Hydration Spray. While many with oily skin will steer clear of “hydration” sprays for fear of adding any excess moisture to the skin, this light mist has been formulated specifically to help balance the skin’s oil production and maintain a healthy pH balance.
